Hello, and welcome to my nature photography blog. As my first post to my new blog I thought it would be good to introduce myself. I am Ron Bielefeld and I have been photographing wildlife for quite a long time. Most seriously over the past 10 years. My passion is birds, so most of my posts will focus on our feathered friends. My goal is to make as many of my posts as possible have some educational value, but at times, when inspiration does not strike, or I am just being lazy, I will just post some of my more recent images. In addition to this blog site I also have an image gallery site where you can view much more of my work (www.whistlingwingsphotography.com). I hope you will take the time to take a look.
Beyond being a bird photographer, in my other professional life, I am a 20+ year avian research biologist. I hold B.S. and M.S. degrees in wildlife biology and currently work for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. My work for the Commission has focused on learning about the ecology of ducks in the state. But I also have worked on many other species. But yes, for the most part I am what we duck biologists call a 'duck head.'
Well, enough about me. I hope to see you here on my blog often. I am looking forward to sharing with you many great nature photography moments. Hopefully we can all learn something along the way, and if not, at least enjoy some great photography.
Sincerely,
Ron B

Ella Snow - I love the beautiful photos of the birds. While I try & chase off birds of prey, they are so beautiful. Your shots are awesome. I leave water & seed for the sparrows, doves, pigeons... I also get little piglet squirrels! I've seen hawks come right in front of me, & take birds! Horrifies me, altho I realize they have little mouths to feed. I love the Ravins - a favorite of mine. I have a bully bird & wonder if you know what it could be. Never saw this bird until recently, & I think it may have gotten loose from someone's home. It's beautiful little bird, exotic looking. Same size as a sparrow, or even smaller. It's black & white, w/black head. Has a bright orange beak. It has a very long, 3 feathered tail. It's very aggressive, chasing off other birds. Any ideas? I live in Southern California, on the coast. I surely love your photos. Thanks so much for sharing. Ella Snow

Jeff Holmes - Ron,
I just found your website and love it! I especially loved the Kingfisher shots. I was lucky enough a year or so ago to watch a Kingfisher for over 15 minutes from my vehicle at what I thought was close range (about 30 feet). Until then I did not know they regurgitated undigested material, but it was fun to watch and photograph. I imagine you have seen this and probably have some great shots of it. Keep up the great work!
